OTAGO CROWN Wines

 

Otago Crown 2003 Gibbston Valley Pinot Noir 
The wine has a deep red/black colour and displays ripe fruit (cherry/plum) and herbal aromas overlying a leathery, forest floor complexity. The palate is medium bodied with a round mid palate and firm tannins. The finish is lean and has moderate length. The fruit was picked at the beginning of May 2003 after long ripening period. A diverse range of clonal material (5, 6, 113, 115, 777, 10/5 and Mariafelder) was used in creating this single vineyard wine. The vineyard has soils that range in depth from a few centimetres to over half a meter, all of which lie over free draining schist gravels synonymous with Central Otago Region.

奥塔哥王冠 2003 Gibbston 谷黑比诺葡萄酒 
本款葡萄酒呈深红色/深黑色,皮革味之中透露出湿草味,散发出一股熟透果实(樱桃/梅)的香味和草木的芳香。这是一种中度香型的葡萄酒,口感圆润,丹宁丰富悠长。回味简单,余韵适中。所用葡萄在经历了较长的成熟期后于 2003 年 5 月采摘。在酿造本款葡萄酒的过程中,我们使用了多种无性物质(5、6、113、115、777、10/5 和 Mariafelder)。Gibbston 谷葡萄园的土壤最薄处只有几厘米厚,最厚的地方深达半米,其下是透水性良好的砂砾片岩,这是中奥塔哥地区典型的土壤特征。

The wine was fermented in small vats with an average “time on skins” of 15 days before being pressed and transferred to barrel. After 11 months the wine was removed from barrel and gently filtered before being bottled in March 2004.

葡萄酒在小批发酵(平均“去皮”时间为 15 天),并经过压榨后装入木桶。经过 11 个月的酿熟,葡萄酒被取出木桶,再经过轻微的过滤,最后于 2004 年 3 月装瓶。

Steve Sawatske moved to New Zealand following his dream to produce world class Pinot Noir, after many years this dream is finally being realized with the release of his first wine. Otago Crown is situated 25 km north of Cromwell on State Highway 6 (Cromwell/Wanaka road) and commands extensive views towards the St Bathans and Dunstan ranges to the north and east.It was never going to be plain sailing as the barren rosehip and rabbit filled block Steve purchased in 2000 had not been irrigated to that point, with the nearest source of water some 1.6 kilometres away. Ground preparation unearthed 1200 tonnes of rock which was subsequently used for roading and to line the 5 million litre dam. It took nearly 2 years to get water to the site with planting beginning immediately in 2001 on the first 8 hectares. Further plantings in 2002 and 2003 increased the vineyard area to 25 hectares, five of which are on manicured terraces at the back of the property.The site has an accumulated seasonal heat typical of Lowborn/Pisa sub region (1000 GDD’s) and is situated on a gently sloping terrace facilitating very good air movement to minimize frosts. The soils are typical of the region: shallow top soils over free draining schist gravels and the vineyard is exclusively planted to the latest clones of Pinot Noir (113, 114 ,115 , 667, 777, 5, 6 ,10/5)
