Early Rolls and Royce
Henry Royce (1863 - 1933) in his early 10hp car at his home in West Wittering. Royce had been running his own electrical and mechanical business in Manchester since 1884, before meeting Charles Rolls.

The Hon Charles Stewart Rolls (1877 - 1910) was a keen aviator. His first experience of flying was in a balloon. Also at the controls of his Wright Flyer plane in which he was killed in 1910.

Rolls and Royce first met at the Midland Hotel, Manchester, on May 4, 1904 and founded the company in 1906.
